Ronald Lee Murph 1940 - 2012

Ronald Lee Murph, age 71, of Bangs went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at the University Medical Center in Lubbock from a sudden illness.
Graveside services with full Masonic Rights will be Saturday, August 18 at 10:30 at Bangs Cemetery.
Ronald was born on August 30, 1940 in Lovington, NM to Phillip and Susie Irene Simpson Murph.
He was married to Patsy Adams on March 24, 1962 in Lovington, NM and was a longtime resident of Bangs.  
He was a 32nd degree Master Mason.  Ronald was Past Master of the Bangs Lodge #926 and Past Master of Eldorado Lodge #890. He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star - Eldorado Chapter, Scottish Rite and York Rite - Suez Shrine Temple in San Angelo, Maskat Shrine Temple in Wichita Falls, and the Heart of Texas Shrine Club in Brownwood. He was Past Marshal of the Suez Shrine Provost Guard and Past Marshal of the Maskat Provost Guard and a member of the Suez Shrine Oriental Band.
He was an avid reader and a member of the Bangs First Baptist Church.  
He is survived by his daughters, Dusti Charboneau of Brownwood and husband Kelley, Jani Mitchell of Eldorado; brothers, Dudley Murph of Lovington, NM and Malcolm Murph of Lubbock; grandchildren, Kelsi Charboneau of San Angelo, Kristin Charboneau of Brownwood, Bridgett Mitchell of San Angelo, Blaine Mitchell of Eldorado and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by Pat, his wife of 49 years, and his brother Farrell.

Joshua Shane Mitchell 1986 - 2012

Deputy Joshua Shane Mitchell of Big Lake, Texas was killed in the line of duty and went to be with the Lord on August 1, 2012 while serving as a Deputy Patrol Officer for the Reagan County Sheriffs Office. He was born on July 22, 1986 in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Josh was a true hero and took his oath seriously. He gave his life while serving his fellow man.

Josh graduated from Reagan County High School in May of 2006. He began his duties at the RCSO while still attending high school. After graduation, he worked as a night jailer while attending Howard College and pursuing a career in Criminal Justice.

He graduated from Howard College on May 11, 2007. He then attended the Concho Valley Regional Law Enforcement Academy from which he graduated May 21, 2008. At this time he began his duties as patrol officer at RCSO.

He married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Jill Matthews Mitchell on June 21, 2008. They made their home in the Stiles area.

He had a love for children and a special way of touching their lives.  In January 2011 Josh began his duties as D.A.R.E. officer at RCSO. He served as the D.A.R.E. Officer until his death. He shared the danger of drugs and alcohol with the children of Big Lake.

Josh also began his duties as K-9 Officer for RCSO in January 2012.  He and his trained side kick, “K-9 Officer Sherlock” worked many hours patrolling the streets of Big Lake together.

Josh served as a volunteer fire fighter for the Big Lake Volunteer Fire Department and the North Reagan County Volunteer Fire Department. Josh was named Rookie of the Year at BLVFD in 2007. Many days he served alongside his mother Cindy, who is also a volunteer fire fighter. He was passionate about serving the community he grew up in and the surrounding area.

Josh loved the outdoors. Boating, fishing, hunting, farming, and ranching are just a few of the things he loved to do in his spare time. Family and friends were always included in everything he did and loved.

He was a faithful son, grandson, brother and husband and was there for his family anytime they needed him.

He was a friend and helping hand to all.

He was a member of Community Baptist Church in Stiles where he took time out of his busy schedule to care for the lawn.

Josh is survived by his wife Jill Mitchell of Stiles; grandparents Marvin and Betty Mitchell, mother Cindy Mitchell, sister Jacy Mankin and her husband JL and their daughter Kenna, sister Bethany Hardison, all of Big Lake; father and mother-In-Law Jimmy and Linda Matthews of Stiles; brother and sister-in-law Michael and Natalie Matthews of Mertzon, sister-in-law Julie Matthews of Stiles; many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins; and the entire staff of the RCSO, which he considered family.

Pallbearers are Sheriff Jeff Garner, Chief Deputy Jeff Weatherby, Captain Destin Wilha,  Deputy Rusty Weatherby, Deputy Troy Goodloe, Deputy Pete Botello, & Deputy Matt Morris.

Honorary Pallbearers are Reserve Deputy TJ Hill, Reserve Deputy Craig Chambers, Reserve Deputy Chad Armstrong,

Reserve Deputy Sieth Wireman, Reserve Deputy Caleb Edwards, DPS Trooper Rob Eshleman, Texas Game Warden Matt Adams, Deputy Matt Suttle, and special friends Coby Booth, JJ Golliday, Wes Lowe and Billy Williams.

Services will be held at First Baptist Church, Big Lake, TX on Wednesday August 8, 2012 at 10:00 am. Immediately following the service a special law enforcement tribute will be held at the Reagan County Park. Graveside services will be at the Stiles Cemetery.

There will be a viewing on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at First Baptist Church, Big Lake at 6:00 pm.

Rev. Byron Bitner and Rev. Gerald Bastin will be officiating the services. The family request memorials be sent to the Reagan County Sheriffs Office D.A.R.E program.

 

Eula Yvonne Kerr 1940 - 2012

ELDORADO — Eula Yvonne Kerr passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2012. She was born in Eldorado, Texas, on Aug. 16, 1940, to Fred and Louise Logan.

She married her true love, Rony Kerr, in Eldorado on July 5, 1956, and was married for 54 years. They raised two children, Kelly Jack Kerr and Ronda Von Kerr.

Yvonne loved life and lived it fully. She enjoyed being a housewife, card games, bowling, Beta Sigma Phi, Mias Amigas with her classmates and ranching and fishing trips with family.

She worked in Eldorado when the children were young as a bookkeeper, medical transcriptionist at the Schleicher County Hospital.

Yvonne is survived by sister Charleen Sudduth and her husband, Myrl, and their children and great-grandchildren; her son, Kelly Kerr and his children and grandchildren; and her daughter, Ronda Kerr; sister-in-law Phyllis Daniel and her children and grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law Larry and Rena Kerr and children; sister-in-law Kathy Kerr Davis and husband Bob;

Tracy Walser Payne and husband Jim and their children and grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were husband Rony Kerr; parents Fred and Louise Logan; brother James Logan; brother-in-law Tony Kerr; and niece Leslie Kerr.

Funeral service was Friday, July 27, 2012, at Mertzon Highway Church of Christ. Burial followed in Eldorado Cemetery.
Arrangements were with Kerbow Funeral Home.

 

Avis Nancy McKenzie Joy 1937 - 2012

SONORA – Avis Joy, 75, passed away July 30, 2012. She was born July 26, 1937 in Fouke, Arkansas, to Spencer Morton and Nettie Naomi (Browning) McKenzie. Avis spent her first five years living with her paternal grandparents, Robert and Carrie McKenzie. She lived in many Texas communities growing up as her parents, Morton and Lenora McKenzie, relocated with Atlantic-Richfield Pipeline Co.

Avis graduated from Rocksprings High School in 1954, and attended a business college in San Angelo. She married John Wesley

Joy on July 8, 1957 in Sonora. They shared 55 years of marriage and raised four children. Avis was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Eastern Star.

On March 17, 1999, Avis was blessed with a “second birthday” when she received a heart transplant. The donor’s gift gave Avis 13 more years of life.

Avis was preceded in death by her birth parents, Nettie and Morton McKenzie; sisters, Janice Perry and Alta Kuhns; and granddaughter, Carmen Page Joy Preston.

Avis is survived by her husband, John Wesley; mother, Lenora McKenzie of Brownwood; sister, Sherrell Howe of Clyde; sister-in-law, Vivian Joy of Ely, Nevada; children, Kerry Joy and wife Debbie of Eldorado, Lesa Kennedy and husband Bentley of Christoval, Tobin Joy of Sonora, Mitzi Kelley and husband Damon of Plainview; grandchildren, Madolyn Phillips and husband Chris of Eldorado, Jana Aguirre and husband Gilbert of Christoval, Wesley Kennedy and wife Jenna of Midland, Mace Joy of Sonora, Katelyn Kelley and Justin Kelley of Plainview; great-grandsons, Slade and Ryder Phillips of Eldorado, and Colton Aguirre of Christoval.

Pallbearers were Bentley Kennedy, Damon Kelley, Chris Phillips, Gilbert Aguirre, Wesley Kennedy, and Lamar Evans.

The funeral service was held Wednesday, August 1, at First United Methodist Church in Sonora. Burial followed in the Sonora Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the many friends for prayers, food, cards, calls, and visits. We would like to express sincere gratitude to Dr. P. Mulgrew of San Antonio and his staff for their exceptional care of Avis the past 13 years. We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to Jessie, Avis’ pharmacist from Walgreens, and the staff and caregivers, especially Amber Shaw, of Odyssey Hospice. You enabled Avis to live the final months of her life at home as she wished.

Lewis “Carl” Carlton Foley

Carl Foley 35, of Kingsland ,Tx passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012. He was born to Lewis B. Foley and Judy L. Hardin Foley of Eldorado, Tx.

Carl was a wonderful son, husband, father, and friend. He was so proud of his three beautiful children Star, Sterling, and William.

His spare time was filled with woodworking, RC Cars, playing his guitar, camping, baseball, scouting, and his family.

Carl and his wife Christy, just celebrated 6 years of marriage out of a very happy and loving 13 year relationship. His family and friends will miss him dearly.

Carl is survived by his wife Christy Foley, and two sons, Sterling and William of Kingsland, TX; daughter, Starlynn of Eldorado, TX; parents Judy and Lewis Foley of Eldorado, TX; maternal grandmother Velma Corey of St. Paul, MN; and extended family.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Dewey and Isabell Foley and uncle Dewey Don Foley all of San Angelo, TX.

A memorial service was held Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Highland Lakes Methodist Church in Buchanan Dam, TX.

 

Shirley Aileen (Jackson) Haynes 1931 - 2012

Mertzon — Shirley Aileen (Jackson) Haynes, 81, of Mertzon, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great, great grandmother was born in Vining, Kansas on July 8, 1931, and was welcomed into heaven on Saturday, July 14, 2012.

She was one of five children born to Lester and Fay Jackson of Clifton, Kansas. She spent her childhood on her parent’s farm where she developed her love for all animals. She raised crows, ducks, racoons, rabbits, chickens, ducks, skunks, dogs and finally, her precious cats.

Shirley married Bud on May 23, 1949, and they shared 61 years of marriage. Together they had four children; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild.

In 1957 Bud relocated the family to Eldorado. There she started her beautician’s career. She specialized in making elderly folks feel beautiful. She carried on this tradition in Andrews, Big Lake and Mertzon (Playhouse Beauty Shop). She was a member of the Eastern Star and a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Mertzon. The love of her church family helped to sustain her through the many trials she has had in her life in these past few years.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Rollin (Bud) and son, David. She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Linda Haynes (Fort Stockton), Mike and Stacy Haynes (Eldorado), and one daughter and son-in-law, Alona and Gene Shoffner (San Angelo).

A celebration of her life was held Tuesday, July 17, at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), US 67 at Juanita, Mertzon, Texas. Burial  followed in the Mertzon Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Salvation Army, 215 Gillis, San Angelo, TX, 76903; or the First Christian Church, P.O. Box 791, Mertzon, TX 76941.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Kerbow Funeral Home, Eldorado, Texas.
