Eagle netters win their own tournament

The Eldorado High School Tennis Team won the Eldorado Invitational Tournament held Tuesday, March 5th.
Ryan Espinosa and Will Barker won the Boys Doubles Championship against Reagan County.
Alexis Garcia won the Girls Singles Championship against her teammate Ashleigh Wright.
Lori Escobar and Strait Pridemore won 2nd in the Mixed Doubles, losing a split set match to Sonora.
Madison Albin and Leonardo Castro lost their 3rd place match in Mixed Doubles in a split set match against another tough team from Sonora.
Kelton Bales and Jesus DeLuna won Consolation in Boy’s Doubles.

Christoval Powerlifting Championships

Eldorado powerlifters traveled to Christoval, on Wednesday, February 20th to participate in the Christoval Powerlifting Championships.
Roger Gehrels placed 7th in the 132 lb. class, lifting 765 lbs.
Deonn Fuentes placed 13th lifting 720 lbs., his personal best, in the 165 lb. weight class.  
Lifting a total weight of 960 lbs. Fabian Gomez placed 8th in the 181 lb. class.
Jaime Chancellor placed 5th lifting a total weight of 890 lbs., his personal best, in the 242 lb. class.
Kelton Bales placed 2nd lifting 1315 lbs. in the 275 lb. weight class.  
Braulio Vargas placed 6th lifting 1050 lbs in the 275 lb. weight class.

Eldorado powerlifters excel at Nueces Canyon

The EHS boys powerlifting team placed 1st at the second annual Nueces Canyon Invitational Powerlifting Meet on Saturday, February 16th.

Roger Gehrels placed 1st in the 132 lb Class with a total of 765 lbs, improving over his prior meet totals. Gehrels lifted 300 lbs in the squat. He bench pressed 150 lbs and tallied 315 lbs in the deadlift.
Fabian Gomez placed 2nd in the 181 lb Class lifting a total of 955 lbs, his best this season. Gomez lifted 380 lbs in the squat. He bench pressed 225 lbs and deadlifted 350 lbs.
Jaime Chancellor was 1st in the 242 lb Class lifting a total of 865 lbs. Chancellor lifted 350 lbs in the squat. He bench pressed 165 lbs, and deadlifted 350 lbs.
Kelton Bales placed 1st in the 275 lb Class lifting 1,325 lbs, his season best. Bales lifted 570 lbs in the squat. He bench pressed 285 lbs and deadlifted 470lbs.
Braulio Vargas won the Super Heavy Weight Class with a total of 1,055 lbs, also a season best. Vargas lifted 420 lbs in the squat. He bench pressed 265 lbs and deadlifted 370 lbs.
Meanwhile the EHS girls powerlifting team placed 5th in the meet.
Magali Mata placed 2nd in the 97 lb Class lifting a total of 415 lbs. Mata lifted 175 lbs in the squat. She bench pressed 75 lbs and deadlifted 165 lbs.
Abby Narvaez placed 3rd in the 105 lb Class lifting a total of 550 lbs. She lifted 230 lbs in the squat. She bench pressed 90 lbs and deadlifted 230 lbs.
Kaci Bales placed 3rd in the 123 lb Weight Class with a total lift of 430 lbs. Bales lifted 170 lbs in the squat and bench pressed 75 lbs. She deadlifted 185 lbs.
Megan Powell placed 1st in the 148 lb weight class with a total of  lifting 630 lbs, more than four times her own weight. Powell lifted 260 lbs in the squat. She bench pressed 120 lbs and lifted 250 lbs in the deadlift.     
All the girls turned in their best lifts of the season in the Nueces Canyon meet.

Bales and Vargas claim Silver medals

The EHS boys Powerlifting team placed 8th Saturday, Feb. 9th in the Eldorado Invitational Powerlifting Meet.

In all, 106 lifters from 13 schools participated. San Angelo Lake View team placed 1st with Ballinger coming in 2nd.

Individual results are:Roger Gehrels, 16th in 148 lb Class lifting 715 lbs.  (Squat 270; Bench Press    145: Dead Lift 300).

Deonn Fuentes (Squat 260; Bench Press 125; Dead Lift 260).
Fabian Gomez placed 7th in the 181 lb. Class. He lifted 935 lbs. (Squat 350; Bench Press 225; Dead Lift 360).
Jaime Chancellor placed 6th in the 242 lb weigh class lifting 865 lbs. (Squat 345; Bench Press 185; Dead Lift 340)
Kelton Bales lifted 1300 lbs, his personal best this season, to claim 2nd place in 275 lb Class. (Squat 560; Bench Press 265; Dead Lift 475).
In the Super Heavy Weight Class Braulio Vargas placed 2nd with 1035 lbs. (Squat 410; Bench Press 250; Dead Lift 375).
Lady Eagles individual results:
Abby Narvaez placed 6th in the 105 lb Class lifting 495 lbs. (Squat 195; Bench Press 80; Dead Lift 220).
Alex McMayon placed 6th in the 114 lb weight class lifting 440 lbs. (Squat 150; Bench Press 80; Dead Lift 210).
Lisa Olivarez placed 5th lifting 615 lbs in 198 lb Class.  (Squat 240; Bench Press 125; Dead Lift 250).

 

Mitchell named to 2013 FCA All-Star squad

Blaine Mitchell of Eldorado High School has been chosen as part of the football squad to participate in the 14th annual Big Country Chevy Dealers Fellowship of Christian Athletes All-Star Festival. Blaine’s parents are Jani Mitchell of Eldorado and John Mitchell of San Angelo.

 

Eagles boys close out B-ball season

The Eldorado varsity boys basketball team ended their season on Tuesday, February 12th with a 57-53 win over the Irion County Hornets in Eagle Gym.

Will Barker led the Eagles in scoring with 17 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Dylan Ramos counted for 14 additional points.
Bobby Martinez, Bailey Espinosa, Brian Shriver and Jose Guerra each posted five points on the night. Rico Martinez added 4 and Diego Sanchez scored 2 points.

Eldorado         16-16-11-14 = 57
Irion Co.         13-05-19-16 = 53

Four days earlier, the Eagles lost a game to the Miles Bulldogs on their home court by a score of  57-43.
The Bulldogs took an 11-point lead early in the contest and never looked back.
Dylan Ramos led scoring for the Eagles with 18 points, including a single three-pointer. Bobby Martinez tallied 10 points, Diego Sanchez and Brian Shriver  each hit for 6, Jose Guerra scored 4 and Will Barker added 1.

8th grade girls win 8-1A District Tourney

The 8th grade Lady Eagles won a series of three straight games on February 2nd to win the District 8-1A Tournament.
Winters was the girls first opponent and which they easily defeated 41-12.
