Texas Rangers suspicious of call for help from YFZ Ranch

Thursday, 24 April 2008 00:00

The Texas Rangers announced this week that they are actively pursuing Rozita Swinton of Colorado Springs, Colorado, as a “person of interest” regarding telephone calls placed to a crisis center hotline in San Angelo, Texas, in late March 2008.

It is believed that the calls provided the impetus for the April 3, 2008 raid at the YFZ Ranch near Eldorado.

FLDS fathers are Jeffs’ victims, too

Thursday, 24 April 2008 00:00

Like everyone else, I watched this week as the mothers of the YFZ Ranch were paraded before the TV cameras to beg for their children to be returned. And, like many of you, I have wondered why the fathers don’t come forward. But there is far more to the story than the parents of the YFZ Ranch.

The truth of the matter is, for every mother who was separated from her children in the YFZ Raid, there are three of four men who lost their children...not to Child Protective Services or the State of Texas, but to Warren Steed Jeffs.

Warrant reveals alleged hoax calls continued for days after YFZ raid

Thursday, 01 May 2008 00:00

Caller claimed to be in San Angelo shelter

An arrest warrant was issued for Rozita Swinton of Colorado, Springs, Colorado on April 16, 2008, by a district court in El Paso County Colorado. The affidavit filed in support of the warrant reveals that Ms. Swinton is the woman who allegedly placed hoax telephone calls that prompted the raid on the YFZ Ranch. Not only did Swinton’s calls allegedly trigger the raid, but they continued much longer than the public was originally told and well after hundreds of women and children were removed from the YFZ Ranch and taken to shelters in San Angelo.

The affidavit indicates that Schleicher County Reserve Deputy John Conner received calls from a woman identifying herself as Sarah, saying that she was in one of the shelters but that she was being observed by her sister wives and was unable to identify herself to CPS workers or law enforcement officers.

Standing with our neighbors

Last week a friend made a very wise statement: How we treat the weakest among us is how we as a society should be judged.

In that context, I would like to commend the Child Protective Services caseworkers and law enforcement officers who removed over 400 children from the polygamist compound up the road in Eldorado, Texas.

Utah accountant sets his sights on assets at YFZ Ranch

Thursday, 01 May 2008 00:00

San Angelo attorney hired to assist in the effort

Bruce Wisan was appointed Special Fiduciary over the United Effort Plan Trust in June of 2005 after a Utah judge found that FLDS Prophet Warren Jeffs and his fellow trustees were not properly overseeing the fund.

Since that time, Wisan has tried to gain control of the trust’s estimated $100 million in assets. A job that was complicated by lack of cooperation from Jeffs loyalists living on UEP owned property in Hildale, Utah and Colorado City, Arizona. Equally frustrating was the action city councils of Hildale and Colorado City, also comprised of Jeffs’ faithful followers.

Judge appoints A.G. to serve as Special Prosecutor in YFZ criminal cases

Thursday, 08 May 2008 00:00

State District Judge Barbara Walther ruled Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in favor of a motion that effectively  appoints Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott as a Special Prosecutor in any criminal investigations that might develop from the April 3rd raid at the YFZ Ranch near Eldorado.

The move would seem to indicate that additional criminal charges might be forthcoming in the case.
