FLDS leaders issue warning

Wednesday, 24 November 2010 13:53

Less than three years after telling his brother Nephi that he was not the prophet of the FLDS Church, Warren Steed Jeffs is back in the prophesying business.

This time, Jeffs invokes the name of God and threatens to  bring forth an “overflowing scourge” upon government officials in the United States and Canada — officials he accuses of conspiring with some of his former followers in an attempt to bring down his church.

And, lest there be any doubt that the latest prophesy comes directly from Jeffs, he signed his name to the 17-page document which he titled,  “A Proclamation to the Government Officials of the United States of America and to the Government Officials of Canada.”

FLDS prophet Warren Jeffs was arraigned Wednesday morning, December 1, 2010, before 51st District Judge Barbara Walther. Jeffs, dressed in orange prison pants and a gray sweatshirt, was escorted to the courtroom by Schleicher County Sheriff David Doran, Texas Ranger Nick Hanna and other law enforcement officers.

Judge Walther informed Jeffs of the charges against him by reading his indictments. He stands accused of sexual assault of a child, aggravated sexual assault of a child younger than 14, and bigamy.

Lights back on at YFZ temple

Warren Jeffs arrival in Texas coincided last week with the lights being turned back on at the massive white temple on the YFZ Ranch. The temple has remained dark ever since Jeffs told his brother Nephi that he wasn’t the prophet of the FLDS Church. The statement was caught on video in January of 2007 when Nephi Jeffs visited his brother in the Purgatory Correctional Facility in Washington County, Utah.

FLDS prophet Warren Jeffs’ legal battles shift to the Lone Star State

Despite a determined effort to avoid extradition to the Lone Star State, Warren Jeffs found himself last week on an airplane bound for Texas. He was in the custody of Texas Ranger Sergeant Nick Hanna and Sergeant Wes Hensley, an investigator with the Office of Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott. The lawmen were dispatched to Utah for the purpose bringing Jeffs to Texas on an extradition warranted signed by Texas Governor Rick Perry and Utah Governor Gary Herbert.

Jeffs still doesn’t have an attorney

Wednesday, 15 December 2010 17:23

FLDS Prophet Warren Jeffs appeared in court again Wednesday morning, December 15th, and where he once again told 51st District Judge Barbara Walther that he doesn’t yet have an attorney. He added, however, that he is close to making a decision on an attorney and hopes to hire one by the end of the month.

Richard Wright, a Las Vegas attorney who represented Jeffs in Nevada, Utah and Arizona, was present for the hearing but sat in the audience and did not take part in the proceeding.

Judge Walther scheduled another hearing for Wednesday, December 29th and agreed to a request from Assistant Attorney General Eric Nichols that Jeffs be formally arraigned at that time.

Grand jury takes no action

Wednesday, 15 December 2010 17:28

Schleicher County grand jurors who have been investigating financial dealings associated with the YFZ Ranch met again on Wednesday, December 15th, for more than an hour.

Attorney General’s Office lawyers and investigators met with the jurors behind closed doors in the Schleicher County Memorial Building. At least one Texas Ranger also participated in the session.
