Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, conferred 830 undergraduate and graduate degrees on 825 graduates during the 2023 spring commencement exercises on May 12-13 at the ASU Junell Center/Stephens Arena.

Thirty-three Eldorado High School graduates received their diplomas on Friday evening, May 26th, at Larry Mitchell Stadium, as an audience of friends, family, and well-wishers looked on.

A crowd of about 60 people gathered Monday morning, May 29th, at the Eldorado Cemetery to pay tribute to Schleicher County’s war dead as part of the annual Memorial Day observance.

EHS musicians continued to rack up the wins at the UIL Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest on Monday, May 29 at Hendrickson High School in Pflugerville ISD.

The 2023 Eldorado Middle School Academic Awards presentation was divided into two programs featuring 5th and 6th grades together, followed by the 7th and 8th grade classes. Both programs where held in the Eldorado High School Auditorium Thursday, May 25, 2023.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a new rule that will require veterinary prescriptions to purchase certain antibiotics used for animals, previously sold over the counter. The new rule will come into effect from June 11, 2023, and will impact a number of veterinary antibiotics considered “medically important antimicrobials.”

School is out for the summer and the Schleicher County Public Library is ready to keep you busy with various activities and programs for the Summer of 2023. All programs are free and for kids and adults of all ages.

Four members of the board met on Thursday, May 11th. This year will be our 92nd annual meeting of this club, established in 1931. There will be some changes this year, most importantly the date. New reunion rates for 2023 are to coincide with the Schleicher County Rodeo in July.

The Eldorado High School UIL science team won the Conference 2A State Championship at the UIL State Academic Meet on Wednesday, May 17th in Austin. The team, consisting of (L-R) Jaqueline Cortez, Isaiah Seymore, Ricky Romo and Raul Iglesias, placed first with a total score of 232. That compares to Lindsay High School’s score of 164 and Shiner’s 152. Seymore was the fourth high individual, Iglesias was seventh, Romo was 10th and Cortez was 21st. Thirty-three Eldorado High School graduates are scheduled to receive their diplomas Friday night, May 26th, at Larry Mitchel Stadium in Eldorado, provided the weather allows.

The 2023 Eldorado Elementary Awards Program was held Monday, May 22nd in the High School Auditorium with friends and family members in attendance. Dash Rudewick led the Pledge of Allegiance to American flag and Elijah Bustos led the Pledge to the Texas flag.

The Eldorado High School 2023 Spring Band Concert was held Thursday, May 18th, in the EHS auditorium

The Eldorado Game Association was pleased to award twelve $2,000 scholarships at the Academic Awards Program on Monday, May 15. The scholarships were presented by board member Bridget Chancellor to 2023 EHS seniors.

Eldorado resident Virginia Howell has been selected to exhibit her award winning paintings in the prestigious 20th annual Texas Masters of Fine Art and Craft Invitational Show, Friday, May 26, through Sunday, May 28, in the ballrooms of the historic YO Ranch Hotel as 24 award-winning Texas artists transform the hotel into a breath-taking gallery of original artwork.

The Schleicher County Commissioners Court convened on Monday, May 15 at the county courthouse. Judge Charlie Bradley presided over the meeting with commissioners Steve Nelson, Chris Meador, Gary Gibson, and Kirk Griffin in attendance.

Jacqueline Cortez is the Valedictorian of the Eldorado High School Class of 2023, according to a statement released by the school on Monday. Cortez completed her four years at EHS with a 100.8367 grade point average. Celeste Milette Hernandez is the class Salutatorian. She finishes her high school career with a 100.3392 grade point average.

The EHS 2023 Athletic Awards Banquet was held on Monday evening, May 15th, in the Eagle Gym. Athletic Director Chad Tutle emceed the event, which is hosted each year by the Eldorado Eagles Athletic Booster Club.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced May 10th that he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.2 billion in local sales tax allocations for May, 4.3 percent more than in May 2022.
