UPDATE: Law enforcement officers searched until dark Wednesday, March 15th, but were unable to locate 8-10 suspected illegal aliens who bailed out of a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup on U.S. 277, some six miles south of Eldorado. The pickup was abandoned Wednesday afternoon south of Plantible Foods after a high-speed chase originating in Sonora.

The 37th annual First Grade Rodeo was held Thursday, March 9th in the Elementary Gym. This year’s rodeo is a first for the new elementary music teacher Justina Saunders.

Eldorado High School One-Act Play cast and crew members were elated to learn they were advancing to the Bi-District One-Act Play contest after winning the District One-Act Play contest on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, in Sterling City.

The Schleicher County ISD board of trustees met Monday evening, March 6th and voted to hire Kristin Sissom to be the elementary principal. She is currently employed as the middle school principal at Crockett County CCSD. The board also voted to accept the resignation of Richard Ramsey. He teaches 7th grade history and was the head girls basketball coach. Sissom’s hiring and Ramsey’s resignation are both effective at the end of the current school year.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Criminal Investigations Division (CID) assisted in a multi-agency, two-day child exploitation operation on February 24-25 that led to the arrest of nine individuals.

A high-speed chase, originating near Comstock and continuing sporadically through Juno and into Sutton County, took law enforcement officers on a circuitous route through Schleicher County on Tuesday, February 21st, before coming to an end on the Hardesty Ranch, some 10 miles north-northwest of Eldorado.

Someone broke into the overnight payment drop at Eldorado City Hall over the weekend, prying the outside door open to access the contents of the box. A customer noticed the damage on Sunday morning, February 19th, when they went to drop off a utility payment.

Schleicher County Commissioners conducted a public hearing on Tuesday, February 21st, regarding the creation of a reinvestment zone for the purpose of granting a tax abatement for a proposed solar farm project in the northern part of the county.

The deadline to file for a place on the ballot in city, school, hospital district and water district elections passed on Friday, February 17th. There will be two contested races on the May 6th ballot, one for school board, and another for city council.

The Schleicher County Hospital District board of trustees met Tuesday evening, February 21st, and voted to grant a tax abatement to Mittel Rockefeller Solar LLC for a proposed solar/battery project in northern portion of the county.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) plans to carry out additional repairs to U.S. 277 when warmer weather arrives in the spring.

The search for a new superintendent of schools at SCISD is officially underway. The Schleicher County ISD board of trustees met Monday evening, February 13th and voted to hire representatives of Education Service Center XV to assist them with the search for Robert Gibson’s replacement.

Martha Medrano was sworn in as a member of the Eldorado City Council Monday night as she took the seat formerly held by Vicki Farmer in Ward #3. The oath of office was administered by City Secretary Karla Reyes.

The Eldorado Game Association will be awarding a total of 12 (twelve) $2,000 scholarships to 2023 graduates of Eldorado High School. Home school students within Schleicher County are also eligible.
