Eldorado Star Party at the X Bar Ranch Marks 15th Anniversary

FREE Public Night Scheduled for Thursday, October 19th

For one week each October over the past 15 years, astronomers from across Texas, other US states and Canada call the X Bar Ranch home.

“There are several people who have made all 15 events,” said Stan Meador, with X Bar Ranch Nature Retreat. “Many more have only missed one, and most of those had pretty good reasons to miss as they really don’t like doing so.”

Over 130 people have registered to attend this year.

The dark skies of the region are something that most locals take for granted, but folks whose hobby is taking in the stars above largely live in areas where good dark skies are drowned out by the increasing glow of light. Thus, with the dark skies and infrastructure developed to host such an event, the X Bar Ranch and Eldorado Star Party is a known destination and event that draws astronomers from far and wide.

Each year attendees enjoy sharing their passion and welcome locals from surrounding communities for a free Public Night held on Thursday night. Anyone interested in coming out to see what a star party looks like and to have the unique opportunity to look through some amazing telescopes should come to the X Bar Ranch Nature Retreat before dark Thursday evening, October 19. It is better if guests can see the field with all the equipment set up before it gets too dark. Then after dark, the attendees are happy to let local guests look through the scopes.

Directions to the Eldorado Star Party: Three miles south of Eldorado, turn right (west) onto FM 2129 and take that road approximately 20 miles to the event entrance. It is just to the south of the X Bar Ranch Nature Retreat Live Oak Lodge entrance. Look for orange road cones near the event gate.
