Schleicher County Grand Jury handed down eight indictments Wednesday, January 3rd, 2024. Four of those indictments have been made public including:

Angelo State University received an anonymous $500,000 gift to establish the Bob Johnson Rodeo Endowment that will support operations for the ASU Rodeo Team.

On Saturday, February 17th, 13 EHS Students (who entered a total of 15 works of art) competed at the Region 15 V.A.S.E. (Visual Art Scholastic Event) Art Contest in San Angelo at Central High School.

The Schleicher County Public Library has been awarded a $75,000 grant from the Carl B. & Florence E. King Foundation to assist in building renovations/equipment, furnishings, and security/technology equipment for the new Public Library at the Eldorado Service Center.

Schleicher County Republicans who cast early ballots in their party primary have found themselves faced with a bevy of candidates seeking the party nomination and 13 propositions. Confusion has arisen with some asking the difference between constitutional amendments and primary ballot propositions.

Russell Cathey and Jeff Chancellor are vying for an at-large seat on the Schleicher County ISD board of trustees. They filed for the seat currently held by Sam Luedecke, who chose not to seek re-election.

The Schleicher County Hospital District board of trustees met Monday evening, February 26th, to handle a short business agenda. Among other business, the trustees voted to purchase 60 square yards of crushed limestone and use it to construct a pad on which to place a shipping container which will be used for storage.

The Plateau Underground Water Conservation & Supply District will conduct a county-wide groundwater availability study to determine the health and viability of the Edwards-Trinity Aquifer that underlies most of Schleicher County.

Schleicher County Judge Charlie Bradley invited Karl Komatsu, president and CEO of Komatsu Architecture in Fort Worth to attend Tuesday’s meeting of the Schleicher County Commissioners Court where he discussed the possibility of constructing a new county annex building and renovating the county courthouse.

U.S. Representative Tony Gonzales held an hour-long meeting with local voters at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, February 20th, at the Old Bank Building on Southwest Main Street in Eldorado.

Eldorado residents reported hearing numerous helicopters passing overhead Monday evening, February 12th, with others saying that the aircraft were landing and taking off from the Schleicher County Airport.

A group of local citizens attended Monday night’s meeting of the Eldorado City Council and took the opportunity to voice their displeasure with proposed changes to the stipends council members receive as well as credit they receive for city utilities. The council had proposed raising the amount of stipend council members receive for attending meetings, as well as providing utility credits for life to council members who serve at least eight years.

The Schleicher County ISD board of trustees met Monday evening, February 12th, and accepted the resignation of Michael Bell as the district’s band director. His resignation was effective on Thursday, February 8th according to SCISD Superintendent Oscar Aguero.

County Treasurer Jennifer Henderson told Schleicher County Commissioners on Monday that the state has changed the rules for early voting and she will be needing more money in the budget for election workers. Henderson noted early voting hours have been extended and will now include Sunday, something that hasn’t happened before.

Candidates are currently being sought to serve on the Appraisal Review Board for Schleicher County, Texas. The board is a group of citizens selected by the Administrative District Judge to hear appeals regarding property tax values in Schleicher County.

A McCulloch County jury last week found Nicholas Jarrett Miller guilty of starting fires at the 111-year-old Mason County Courthouse and an occupied residential structure on February 4, 2021.

Eldorado High School CX Debate Teams traveled to Sonora on Monday, February 5th to compete in the District CX Debate Meet.

Schleicher County won 3rd place in District competition at the San Angelo Livestock Show Food Challenge contest on Wednesday, January 24.
