The Texas Forest Service lists 10 hanging trees and features them on its website. They represent but a portion of the dozens of known hanging trees that once dotted the state. Most of those have died or have been destroyed, including an oak tree that stood in Jones County, alongside U.S. 277 between Anson and Hawley.
