With winter receding and springtime fast approaching, the vibrant hues of Texas wildflowers will soon draw many thousands of tourists to wildflower “hot spots” in Central and West Texas.

Schleicher County Public Library has received over $400, 000 in grant funds and private donations for the renovation of the former clinic at the Eldorado Service Center. We would like to thank all of the community members and business who have made monetary donations to this project. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Eldorado High School hosted a UIL Academic Meet, Saturday, March 2nd, 2024 and won Overall Sweepstakes.

Justin Wade Hancock, 28, of Theodore Alabama, was shot and killed Sunday, March 10th, after he escaped from the Sutton County Jail and led law enforcement officers on a pursuit through western Sutton County, across Crockett County and into Pecos County.

Eldorado residents Rick and Becky Sterling were in attendance at the Eldorado City Council meeting on Monday, March 11th, and asked when potholes would be repaired on South Cottonwood Street near the Post Office.

Schleicher County voters went to the polls Tuesday for the Republican and Democrat Party primaries. The majority of votes, 462, were cast in the Republican Primary, representing 90 percent of all primary voters. Only 51 people voted on the Democrat ballot.

The Schleicher County Public Library is proud to announce we are partnering with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program. This program will help Schleicher County children receive a monthly free book until they are five years of age.

Schleicher County Commissioners heard from local rancher Gary Wofford on Monday, March 4th, regarding military training maneuvers at the Eldorado Training Grounds (formerly YFZ Ranch) on County Road 300. Wofford explained that his is a Vietnam veteran with PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). He said that he and his wife Rebecca purchased property near the Eldorado Training Grounds (ETG) about 10 years ago expecting peace and quiet after leaving Houston.

Wednesday, March 6, 2024 marked the 15th anniversary of a double homicide in College Station that claimed the lives of Eldorado siblings Travis and Rachel Joiner. The brother and sister were sharing a home in the 100 Block of Walcourt Loop while attending Texas A&M University when Rachel’s former boyfriend, John Darrel Thuesen, then age 25, came to the home then shot and killed them both.

Jacob Daniel Aguayo, 30, of San Angelo, died in a fiery crash on Thursday, February 29, 2024, some six miles east of Eldorado on U.S. 190. Aguayo was driving eastbound when his 2017 Ford delivery truck left the roadway and struck a tree before catching fire.

Schleicher County Grand Jury handed down eight indictments Wednesday, January 3rd, 2024. Four of those indictments have been made public including:

Angelo State University received an anonymous $500,000 gift to establish the Bob Johnson Rodeo Endowment that will support operations for the ASU Rodeo Team.

On Saturday, February 17th, 13 EHS Students (who entered a total of 15 works of art) competed at the Region 15 V.A.S.E. (Visual Art Scholastic Event) Art Contest in San Angelo at Central High School.

The Schleicher County Public Library has been awarded a $75,000 grant from the Carl B. & Florence E. King Foundation to assist in building renovations/equipment, furnishings, and security/technology equipment for the new Public Library at the Eldorado Service Center.

Schleicher County Republicans who cast early ballots in their party primary have found themselves faced with a bevy of candidates seeking the party nomination and 13 propositions. Confusion has arisen with some asking the difference between constitutional amendments and primary ballot propositions.

Russell Cathey and Jeff Chancellor are vying for an at-large seat on the Schleicher County ISD board of trustees. They filed for the seat currently held by Sam Luedecke, who chose not to seek re-election.

The Schleicher County Hospital District board of trustees met Monday evening, February 26th, to handle a short business agenda. Among other business, the trustees voted to purchase 60 square yards of crushed limestone and use it to construct a pad on which to place a shipping container which will be used for storage.

The Plateau Underground Water Conservation & Supply District will conduct a county-wide groundwater availability study to determine the health and viability of the Edwards-Trinity Aquifer that underlies most of Schleicher County.

Schleicher County Judge Charlie Bradley invited Karl Komatsu, president and CEO of Komatsu Architecture in Fort Worth to attend Tuesday’s meeting of the Schleicher County Commissioners Court where he discussed the possibility of constructing a new county annex building and renovating the county courthouse.
