August Lloyd Roden was born on March 29, 1925, in Gorham, Kansas to Louis and Hallie Roden. August passed away August 11. 2023.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at 10 a.m. at the Eldorado Cemetery Chapel. Interment will follow in Eldorado Cemetery.
He enlisted in the US Army in 1945, during the WWII era. Upon discharge, he married Majorie Lee Webb on January 17, 1949. Marjorie passed away on March 15, 1973, after a brief illness.
In 1952, August went to work for Cities Service and was transferred to Eldorado in 1960. He worked at Cities Service, which later became Occidental Petroleum, until he retired in 1982 and moved to his property in Knoxville, Arkansas to farm and raise cattle. There August met Mary Edith Reese and the two were married on April 26, 1997. They then moved back to Eldorado in 1998 to enjoy the company of family and church friends.
August loved being on the tractor cutting hay or helping harvest Meador pecans. Although he was a man of few words, he always enjoyed telling stories from his days in the oil patch. “Augie” and Mary happily shared nearly 30 years of marriage together in Eldorado.
August is survived by his loving wife, Mary, daughter Dorothy Dacy and husband Monroe, son Bradley Roden, and daughter Rita Meador, all of Eldorado.
Grandchildren include Russell Dacy and wife Missey of Wall, Tina Harlan and husband Keith of Azle, Matthew Lloyd of San Angelo, DeeAnn McBee and husband Josh of Slaton, and LeeAnn Bailey and husband Clinton of Fredericksburg, TX.
Great-grandchildren include Luke Dacy and wife Nikki of San Angelo, Kylee Dacy of Lubbock, Shae Smalling and wife Spero of DeRidder, LA, Brady Harlan of Azle, Brandt and Kennedy Lloyd of San Angelo, Sterlin Richardson of Lubbock, Maysen White and Callie Faubus of Slaton, TX.
There are four great- great-grandchildren, Elijah and Olivia Smalling and Carter and Drew Dacy.
August is also survived by June Roden Porter of Oklahoma City, OK, his only remaining sister, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
August is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, his first wife Majorie Roden, his son Howard Roden, stepson James Reese, and son in law, John Edward Meador.
