On Saturday, July 18th, 2026, the first case of New World Screwworm (NWS) in Schleicher County was confirmed in a lamb. The resulting infested zone now covers most of Schleicher County and parts of Sutton County, with a surveillance zone extending into Tom Green, Irion, and Menard Counties. This marks the 41st NWS case in the U.S., with 12 active cases as of Tuesday, July 21st.
