Schleicher County ISD Athletic Director Chad Tutle told students and staff on Tuesday that he will be leaving Eldorado at the end of the school year.

Randy and Kathy Mankin marked a milestone on Monday, April 29, 2024. It was the 30th anniversary of the day that they purchased The Eldorado Success newspaper.

The Plateau Underground Water Conservation & Supply District board of directors met Thursday, April 25th Schleicher County Civic Center. Among other items of routine business, the board approved irrigation well permits for Matt Brown, Cy Griffin and Rex Enochs.

Two former SCISD employees, including a teacher/coach and a teacher’s aide, each entered guilty pleas in recent weeks to charges ranging from Improper Relationship Between an Educator and a Student, to Indecent Assault and Harassment, according to court documents.

Thirty-three EHS students competed in the 2024 Regional UIL Academic Meet in Canyon on April 26th. The Eldorado High School Science Team, consisting of Isaiah Seymore, Raul Iglesias, Ricky Romo and Ethan Seymore, will advance to the State UIL Academic Meet in Austin on Tuesday, May 14th for the second year.

Schleicher County Commissioners met Monday, April 29th and voted to hire Ryder Ross, a Brady native and Texas Tech University graduate, as the county’s new AgriLife Extension Agent.

Kathy Priest-Smith, San Angelo author and resident will visit Eldorado Elementary and Middle School 5th and 6th graders on Wednesday, May 1st. She will be at the elementary from 8:00 am – 11:00 am and meet with the 5th and 6th graders beginning at 1:00 pm. Presentations will be in the school libraries.

The Schleicher County Hospital District board of trustees met Monday evening, April 22nd and discussed the possibility of enlarging the hospital’s physical therapy department. It was noted that an increased number of patients in the hospital’s swing bed program has resulted equates to increased demand for physical therapy.

The Eldorado Middle School 7th & 8th grade band received a Division 1 rating at the Clyde Band Festival on Friday, April 19th. The band performed, “Dance Celebrations” by Robert W. Smith, “Armory” by Randall D. Standridge, and Crusade by Vince Gassi.

The late Bob Johnson of Eldorado is among the 2024 inductees named by the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame (TRCHF). The distinguished group represents a broad spectrum of the rodeo community, from legendary competitors and cherished animals to influential rodeo personnel and vital organizations. The TRCHF induction ceremony is slated for April 27th at River Ranch in Fort Worth.

Schleicher County Commissioners met Monday, April 15th and voted to accept the resignation of County and District Clerk Mary Ann Gonzalez and thanked her for her service to the county. Gonzalez will serve until June 30, 2024.

Trevor James Myrick, 26, of Hobbs, New Mexico, died Tuesday after exchanging gunfire with law enforcement officers on Duncan Avenue, just south of O.K. Wolfenbarger football field in Mertzon.

While neighboring communities to the east of Eldorado were able to experience a total solar eclipse on Monday, residents here saw an eclipse that approached 98% coverage.

The Eldorado City Council met Monday, April 9, 2024 and voted to extend $200 utility credits to council members who served in office for four continuous years before leaving the council. That’s the same credit current council members receive.

ET-Fuels’ first test water well on the Pat Jackson Ranch was a dry hole. That was the word from Patrick Woodson, the company’s chief U.S. development officer. He advised the Plateau Underground Water Conservation & Supply District’s (PUWC&SD) board of directors that the company plans to drill additional test wells in hopes of finding an adequate water supply for the hydrogen extraction and methanol synthesis facility the company wants to build.

U.S. 277 in Schleicher and Sutton counties is set to have a new name once construction is complete on Interstate 27. The route, widely known as the Ports-to-Plains Corridor, received historic approval in the I-27 Numbering Act of 2023 (S.992) which received unanimous consent in the U.S. Senate, marking the final legislative step towards solidifying an official name for the critically significant Ports-to-Plains Corridor. The bill’s journey saw unanimous approval in both chambers, with the U.S. House of Representatives endorsing amended language, now ready for President Biden’s signature.

Schleicher County Clerk Mary Ann Gonzalez will be retiring on June 30th, according to County Judge Charlie Bradley. He said her resignation and retirement will be listed as an action item on the agenda for the April 15th meeting of the Schleicher County Commissioners Court.

The Eldorado High School Mighty Eagle Band performed at the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading evaluations on Wednesday, March 27 at Cooper High School in Abilene.

The Schleicher County Public Library (SCPL) has been awarded a $150,000 grant from the FMH Foundation to assist in the building renovations / equipment, furnishings, and security / technology equipment for the new public library at the Eldorado Service Center (ESC).
