Carolyn Kay Cleary Porter, a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, friend and cherished member of the community, passed away on July 5, 2023, at the age of 76. Surrounded by her family, she peacefully embarked on her eternal journey, joining her Lord and Savior. Born on September 3, 1946, in Seminole, OK, Carolyn was the beloved daughter of Woodie and Margaret Cleary.
In 1964, Carolyn graduated from Andrews High School, and she furthered her education by attending Odessa College. Her passion for healthcare led her to pursue a career as an X-ray technician, obtaining her certificate at Kermit Hospital. On May 27, 1967, she married her soulmate, Michael Porter, and together they embarked on a life filled with love and adventure.
Throughout their journey, Carolyn and Michael lived in Lubbock, Midland, and eventually made their home in Eldorado, TX in 1975. It was in Eldorado where they raised their two children, Carisa Michelle, and Jason Michael. Carolyn dedicated over twenty-five years of her professional life to Schleicher County Medical Center, where she worked as an X-ray technician, providing compassionate care to those in need.
Carolyn’s talents extended beyond her professional life. She possessed a creative spirit and found joy in crafting beautiful pieces through crochet and jewelry making. Antique stores were a source of delight for her, and she took pleasure in discovering unique treasures. Carolyn had a special fondness for vibrant flowers and indulged in the artistic realm through various arts and crafts. Her hands were always busy creating something fun and extraordinary.
Above all else, Carolyn valued her role as a devoted mother and grandmother. She found true happiness in the presence of her beloved grandchildren, who affectionately called her Nana. Her heart was filled with love and she consistently placed the needs of others before her own. Carolyn’s selflessness touched the lives of everyone she encountered, leaving an indelible impact on their hearts.
Indulging in simple pleasures, Carolyn relished diet cherry lime-aids from Sonic, considering them an essential treat. Her favorites also included ice cream, diet coke, beans, and cornbread, which brought her comfort and contentment throughout the years. She was best known for her amazing skills in the kitchen and no matter who stopped by her house she always had food and snacks ready. All of friend’s kids called her mom or Nana and her door was always open for a hug, a snack or just to spend time together. She always encouraged her children and grandchildren to pursue their dreams with unwavering support. Carolyn made birthdays truly memorable with homemade cakes made with love.
Despite her illness, Carolyn demonstrated unwavering strength and determination. Her devotion to her grandchildren remained steadfast, and she was granted the immense joy of witnessing four of them graduate from high school. All her grandchildren were the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Woodie and Margaret Cleary, her beloved husband Michael Porter, and her sister Sandra Tipton. Carolyn is survived by her loving daughter, Carisa Wallace of San Angelo, and her devoted son, Jason Porter, and his wife Jennifer, from Eldorado. Her memory will forever be treasured by her grandchildren: Morgan, Ashlyn, Tyler, Garrett, Alexis, Carter, and great-grandson, her namesake Porter Jude. She is also survived by her brothers, Woodie Cleary Jr., James Cleary, sister Brenda Vincent and sister-in-law Shirley West. In addition, she leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members and friends.
Family and friends are invited to join in a visitation at First Baptist Church in Eldorado, Texas, located at 109 W Gillis Ave, Eldorado, TX 76936, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 15, 2023. Following the visitation, a memorial service and celebration of Carolyn’s life will commence at 2:00 pm, led by Pastor Blake Odell, who will officiate the service.
Carolyn’s departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Yet, her spirit will forever be remembered through the beautiful memories she created and the love she shared with everyone around her.
