Celebrating its 20th anniversary October 24-30, the Eldorado Star Party has been a focal point for gathering astronomers and astro-photographers from across the state and around the country to enjoy the dark West Texas skies at the X Bar Ranch.

Schleicher County Commissioners met Tuesday, September 6th and adopted the county’s 2023 budget totaling $5,855,070. Much of the budget will be funded by a combination of fees, state supplements, grant funds and sales taxes. Still a large portion will be funded by property tax so the commissioners voted to set a tax rate of 69.59 cents per $100 valuation in order to balance the books.

Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) has been discovered in a deer breeding facility in Gillespie County. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) are collaboratively working to determine the source and extent of the first positive detection of the disease in this county.

The Schleicher County ISD board of trustees met Monday evening, August 29th and voted to adopt a budget for the 2023 fiscal year. They also voted to set a tax rate of 94.3 cents per $100 valuation. That represents a 1.7 cent reduction from last year and a 10.7 cent reduction in the past two years.

Eldorado City Council met Monday, August 29th and unanimously passed ordinance #101-11 that raises the base rate for residential and commercial water customers by $12 per month. The base rate will increase from $27 to $39 beginning with the September billing which reflects water used in August.

Schleicher County Commissioners met Monday, August 22nd and voted 4-1 in favor of a motion to deny pay raises to all elected county officials and to keep their pay the same in 2023 as it is in 2022.
